About the Session:

What does it mean to accelerate student learning? How does acceleration differ from remediation? To accelerate student learning, we must consider a shift in mindset along with new and innovative instructional practices that differ from traditional approaches to remediation.

We do a deep dive into the approaches for accelerating all readers’ foundational reading skills through the lens of the SIPPS (Systematic Instruction in Phonological Awareness, Phonics, and Sight Words) K–12 curriculum. Specifically, we anchor our learning in the research to better understand the key instructional elements for fostering student mastery of foundational reading skills, the effective use of ongoing data to inform instruction and decision-making, and the impact of safe and supportive learning environments on student learning.
